While you may feel pretty heroic at carrying your bag over your shoulder as you work through your round, there’s no need for it. Instead, it’s a good idea to look at conserving your energy for your next shot by focusing on using a push cart to just remove some of that stress from your back and shoulders. After all, unless you play near scratch, then you are going to be picking up your bag on a very regular basis, and that kind of adds up over the course of a round.
So, how do you choose from the various push carts on the market? We’re here to help.
I’ll make it simple for you. CaddyTek is the best brand in my opinion. They offer the best value push carts, with high quality parts, easy system to open/close, incredible customer service, and great price tags. Sun Mountain is a great alternative (along with a few others), but they are typically pricier and without any noticeable improvements to support the price increase.
What Do We Mean By Convenient?
You need to take several things into consideration when choosing a push cart.
First, if you have a stand bag then don’t automatically think that a push cart isn’t going to work. Often, there’s a clip-on system that means they are compatible with one another.
Next, it should be light and easy to move around. Look at whether the model you are buying has 3 or 4 wheels as either option is common when it comes to push carts. Also, take into account the braking system with the push cart. You want to know that it’s going to stay where you left it as you go to take your shot rather than suddenly having to run after it as it vanishes down the fairway.
So, what we are looking for is something sturdy, with good breaks, and is easy to move. Thankfully, the 4 we have included below meet all the criteria.
Most Adjustable: CaddyTek Explorer V8 – SuperLite 4 ($160)
If you want a super adjustable push cart, consider the CaddyTek Explorer V8 – SuperLite 4.
One of the first things we love about this push cart is that it basically folds down flat. Also, it has four wheels as opposed to the others listed above which come with three. This should, in essence, mean it has even greater stability, so if you tend to play on a more undulating course then this may make a difference to you.
It does also have the customary adjustable handle and foot break while the bag brackets are easy to click into place, so any golf bag should be able to sit on here without any problems.
Plus, you can easily adjust the height of the handle based on your height. If a mom and a daughter plan on using the push cart at some time, this would be a great option! As we said, this cart folds down flat which makes it exceptionally easy to store away while getting it back up to position takes what feels like seconds.
- Features: Umbrella holder, easy to use foot brake, 2 steps to fold, adjustable handle, scorecard holder, storage compartment, beverage holder, cell phone/GPS holder, and mesh net
- Pros: The most adjustable push cart on the market (can adjust the width of the wheels to fit any bag, and you can adjust the height of the handle to cover many different ages.
- Cons: Plastic clamps aren’t as durable as other models’ clamps.
- Best for: The CaddyTek Explorer V8 Superlite 4 is perfect for families that want to use the bag for many different people/ages at different times.
Most Durable: Sun Mountain Pathfinder 4 ($240)
If you want the most durable push cart on the market, the Sun Mountain Pathfinder 4 is the one for you. It’s slightly heavier due to the higher quality parts used, but it’s well worth it if you are expecting to get 10+ years out of this push card.
This latest 2020 version is more compact (when folded) than ever before, and it also comes with a simple 2-step folding system. The break is easy to apply, the handle height can be easily adjusted, and it’s going to give you no problems when it comes to pushing it around.
One additional feature that we love about the Sun Mountain Pathfinder 4 are the two, back (rear) oversized wheels. This means you can go all over the undulations of the course without worrying about things toppling over or becoming stuck. Oh, and it comes with a bag to trolley locking system in place, so you should have no difficulty getting any bag to fit on here.
- Features: Umbrella holder, easy to use foot brake, 2 steps to fold, scorecard holder, storage compartment, beverage holder, cell phone/GPS holder, and mesh net
- Pros: Super durable cart that will last nearly a lifetime if well taken care of
- Cons: More expensive than other bags discussed here.
- Best for: The Sun Mountain Pathfinder 4 is best for golfers that want to buy a push cart for life.
Easiest to Fold: Caddymatic Golf X-Lite One-Click ($200)
The Caddymatic Golf X-Lite One-Click model comes with 3 large wheels, so moving it around the course should never come with any problems. We also love the way in which the telescopic handle glides up and down through the various heights without any snags. Overall, the entire push cart feels as if it’s well balanced, and at only 7kg in weight it’s also not too heavy to try to carry around.
Setting the Caddymatic Golf X-Lite One-Click up takes next to no time with its simple one-click folding mechanism that condenses it down to an amazingly small size making it easy to transport around in your vehicle. When you get to the course, simply take it out, and the cart practically throws itself up and is ready to use.
- Features: Umbrella holder, easy to use foot brake, 1 steps to fold, scorecard holder, tee holders, ball holders, small storage compartment, beverage holder, and cell phone/GPS holder,
- Pros: Their one click release button makes it the easiest/quickest push cart to fold up or to expand.
- Cons: Tad bit heavier at 17lbs, and only has 3 wheels (not a huge deal)
- Best for: The Caddymatic Golf X-Lite One-Click is best for those that don’t want to hassle with their bag when getting to the course and when leaving the course.
The Best Value Overall Push Cart: Caddytek CaddyLite 11.5 V3 ($115)
So, the push carts mentioned above needn’t break the bank, but there are other options out there that can bring down the potential price tag even more than you initially thought possible. In this instance, we recommend an item such as the Caddytek CaddyLite 11.5 V3.
By the way, I would never recommend spending any less than $100 for a push cart. This cart is the cheapest that I would recommend anyone buy. Bags less than $100 are flimsy and will break within a couple of years of minimal use.
With the Caddytek CaddyLite 11.5 V3 model, you will tend to pay less and still be buying a quality name in the industry. However, do look at going back a year or so if you want to save even more money. Here, you get a lightweight frame made from aluminum which is still sturdy and easy to move around. It folds down just as you would expect, but the beauty of it is that it does come in cheaper than the models we have mentioned above.
- Features: Umbrella holder, easy to use foot brake, 1 steps to fold, scorecard holder, tee holders, ball holders, small storage compartment, beverage holder, and cell phone/GPS holder,
- Pros: The best combination of price, adjustability, ease of use, and durability.
- Cons: Can’t think of anything.
- Best for: The Caddytek CaddyLite 11.5 V3 is perfect for anyone that wants a great all around push cart without breaking the bank.
Overall Verdict
We love push golf carts thanks to their practicality and ability to remove so much of the stress and energy that is wasted when dragging your golf bag around the course. You needn’t pay a fortune in order to have one of these push carts, and the ones we have listed do cover various price ranges without being too far out of the ballpark. However, as is the norm with us, if money is something that you like to save, then our best value alternative is never going to let you down.
