The latest iron set from TaylorMade is the SIM MAX. This is a super forgiving game improvement iron that will work for a wide range of handicaps. If you are thinking of replacing your irons this year, we will give you a rundown on the benefits and negatives to the SIM Max and, as always, an alternate or two to help you if you don’t want to spend the big numbers this set retails for.
Speed Bridge
The TaylorMade Speed Bridge technology is new this year, but it is just an increase of the speed pocket technology that we have become accustomed to with the TaylorMade line of irons. TaylorMade is all about ball speed. They want to do everything they can to get you as much distance as possible. The SpeedBridge design on these golf clubs help the irons to cut through the air and give you the extra speed you deserve.
ECHO Damping System
Perhaps my favorite thing about these TaylorMade SIM Max irons is how much time TaylorMade spend trying to get them to feel like forged irons. There is a tremendous difference in the way a cavity back feels verse a forged iron. If golfers had the best of both worlds, they would all play with forged irons. The reason this is not possible is because the forged irons are not forgiving at all. The SIM Max irons are about as close as you can feel to something forged without actually being forged.
The ECHO Damping system is a large part of what makes these SIM Max feel so good. When you get into the impact position, the ECHO damping system helps to stabilize the hit, make it feel better, and eliminate any unwanted vibrations that could be causing the irons not to feel great. It does a great job, and there is a significant improvement in feel since the prior generation of M6.
Thin Face
This year the big thing with all the new irons is an ultra-thin face. The thinner the face, the better the rebound effect off of the clubhead. These SIM Max irons will jump off the clubface much differently than an older piece of technology. If you are playing with an iron set more than a few years old, you will notice the difference immediately.
Set Makeup
The TaylorMade SIM MAX Ladies irons are available from a four iron down to a sand wedge. We recommend going with a four hybrid instead of the four iron; it will be easier out of a tough lie. The irons come with an Aldila Ladies NV 45 gram shaft. In all honestly, Aldila makes some of the greatest shafts for both men and women. You are getting a high performing stock shaft with this set.
Who Are These For?
Now that you know a bit more about the SIM Max irons, it may help to know who they are designed for. This particular clubhead is designed to give the mid to high handicapper the most benefit. If you are a low handicap golfer, you may look for more of a forged club. For the high and mid handicappers, you will get the extra distance and forgiveness that you need to help improve your iron game.
The Better Value Alternative
There is no question that irons can be difficult for women golfers to hit at times. As you move towards a four iron, things can get very complicated. Regardless, all-female golfers should have a few irons in their bag for the approach shots and shorter par three holes. The SIM Max are incredible irons, but as a new release, they are quite expensive. If you are looking to save a little money but still want something of high quality, you can look at the TaylorMade M4 women’s irons or the M6 ladies golf irons.
The M4 and the M6 are a few years older than the SIM, but they both have the speed technology and are both built for the mid to high handicapper. We will admit that these irons get progressively longer as far as potential distance is concerned as you move towards the SIM Max. If it comes down to a matter of a few yards or a few hundred dollars, you will have to make that choice for yourself.
The Final Verdict on TaylorMade SIM Max Women’s Irons
The SIM Max irons are an absolute yes for the female golfer, as long as you can swing the price tag. If you don’t mind paying the price for these clubs, there is no doubt that you will see a great deal of benefit. Exceptionally few players will be able to tell the difference between the M6 and the SIM Max, don’t be afraid to save a few dollars and go back a year in technology.
