So, let’s clear one thing up straight away. The Arccos Caddie Link is a small device that is both lightweight as well as portable, and is designed to connect with the Arcoss caddie sensors to effectively record all kinds of shot data. While this all sounds like fancy stuff, the way in which it can actually improve your game is outstanding.
Its main aim is to eliminate the need for you to carry your phone in your pocket when you have the caddie sensor. Your phone is bulky and gets in the way. It can fall out through your swing and impedes you (mentally and physically) more than you know.
The Appearance
This device is seriously small, and it’s designed to also clip onto your belt without getting in the way of your swing or movement of your body. The device weighs less than 25g, so you will hardly know it’s even there. Also, it does come across as looking like it can withstand the weather which is always a bonus when out on the golf course.
How it Works
The way in which this item works is very easy to follow. However, you need to remember that you do need the Arcoss Caddie sensor for this to work.
The first thing you need to do is to pair it with your phone, and this takes seconds. All that’s required is to press a single button and it links. There never seems to be any battle with Bluetooth not connecting or anything like that. After, you should see an option pop up on Caddie Sensor on your phone to use Link Shot Tracking.
Once you have it paired and click on that part on the phone app, then you are good to go. Play your shots, and remember to record the pin position by that single button press when standing next to it.
However, we have one little tip. The device does need its microphone to pick up when there’s a shot. For that reason, you need to clip it on your belt while making sure it’s not covered. If you do cover it, then it’s not going to work. Oh, and we would also recommend having your phone in your bag (not in your pocket or in the golf cart) so you can have it handy for important calls, while not allowing it to distract you.
Performance
So, how does this Arccos Caddie Link perform? Well, if we are honest, then it does work pretty well even though it doesn’t have that much to do. Various reviews and comments by other golfers online show that it does record shots better than the phone app that came before it, and that has to be a real bonus.
Also, its ease of use is impressive. Being able to record that pin position by standing beside it and pressing one single button does speed things up, and it eliminates the need to mess around getting access to your phone, then finding the app, then finding the right part on the app….you get the idea.
What we have here is something that works smoothly, and it does the job that it has been designed for. Considering this is the first version of this link, it does bode well for the future, and it’s a better option than using your phone.
Who is it For?
So, who is this device actually aimed at? Well, if you are completely new to the game of golf, then this device is a bit pointless simply because you are focusing on other things such as perfecting your swing and actually hitting the fairway. However, once you get past that point it then becomes more important to be aware of shot data, and that’s where this device comes into its own.
In other words, we feel that this device is for anybody who is starting to enjoy the game and wants to delve deeper into their shots and to really find out what’s going on with their game. However, it’s still the app that’s going to do most of the work with this link merely being an added extra. In saying that, it’s a cool extra to have.
Better Value Alternative
While this product is different from so many other caddie inspired items on the market, it’s not the only one out there that does this. So, while the price may not be that far out of the price range for most people, we do know of better value alternatives that can offer the same kind of results, and for less money.
There are, of course, a huge number of apps out there such as that available from Golf Logix or, if you want to combine it with some hardware, then Blast Golf Swing Analyzer would be even better. Yes, it doesn’t have the same link aspect as we mentioned, but it still offers real data that you can study in order to better understand your game and where improvements can be made.
Overall Verdict
The Arccos Caddie Link is one of those items where you never think you will actually require it until you try it out. At that point, you then wonder how you survived so long without it. If data is your thing, then either this link or our value alternative could be the perfect addition to your toolkit. Yes, there are cheaper options out there, and we still believe that they can play a huge role in delivering important data without the same cost, so if you are on a budget then there’s no reason to feel left out.
