I can’t say I love PXG as a brand. Just the same way that I don’t understand people buying a Rolex watch. I’ve never been one to spend more money than I really needed to, but I do understand that everyone is different.
If you want a blunt review of the PXG 0211 irons, then you came to the right place. I’ll tell you like I see it – I won’t just paraphrase the manufacturer’s website like many other brands do.
I can appreciate the fact that PXG introduced the 0211 line of clubs as a better value option compared to their typically outrageously expensive clubs. The PXG 0211 irons are now just $109/club on sale (normally $179/club). However, if you are looking for “value”, then PXG shouldn’t even be in your vocabulary. There are simply too many great options out there for far less than the price of the PXG 0211 irons.
Alright. That’s enough of an introduction for this review. Let’s dig in.
Appearance & Performance
Appearance: At address, the PXG 0211 2021 irons looks very sleek – you’d almost say that it looks like a blade except for the longer width club head. I’d categorize this as a players iron with some extra forgiveness, which is a category that more and more golfers are looking into.
The low & oddly-shaped perimeter weighting do a great job of adding some forgiveness but without taking away from the thinner topline at address.
Distance: Let’s take some time to talk about distance. These babies are long, but for an obvious reason. That reason? The strongest lofts that I’ve ever seen. They basically take an average 5 iron loft and instead stamp a “7” on it. Deceiving? Very. I wish they would just put the loft on the bottom of the club instead of a completely random number that has no meaning anymore.
Just a fun little tidbit: Back in the 1970’s, the average FOUR iron was around 28 degrees. The PXG 0211 has a 28 degree loft on the SEVEN IRON! I don’t know about you, but I don’t have to trick myself into feeling good about my iron game by having a different number stamped on the sole. An honest set of irons would just list the loft – not an arbittrary number.
Who The PXG 0211 Irons (2021) are Meant For
Pros & Cons
- The longest irons that you may ever hit – but mainly because the insane lofts
- Extremely forgiving on off center hits due to the low perimeter weighting and wide club faces
- Apparently the “thinnest club face” ever, which should lead to great ball speeds compared to other drivers
- Should be extremely durable due to the cast (not forged) construction
- A brand new set of clubs from a great brand at their lowest prices possible
Cons:
- Deceiving, strongly lofted clubs that will probably force you to add another wedge to fill the distance gap between wedges
- Not quite the forged feel and distance control that you’d get from a more premium set of PXG forged irons
- Still very expensive (once the sale price of $109/club goes away) compared to similar clubs
- Will likely be more difficult to find a dealer to demo in person compared to other brands
Better Value Alternative
Here’s what you are really wanting: a long players irons that has some extra forgiveness. I can give that to you for a much lower price in the Mizuno JPX 825 Pro irons. No, the lofts are not quite as strong as the PXG 0211 irons, but the performance is practically the same if you look at the loft of the clubs, not the number on the club head.
I’m currently gaming this set, and I can’t say enough good things about them. I’ve had them for 5+ years and I don’t plan on changing anytime soon. Great distance, great forgiveness, great look, and incredible price. What more do you want people?? Oh, and on top of that, you get a forged club head and are getting the best iron brand in golf (my personal opinion). Lastly, you can get the Mizuno JPX 825 Pro in great condition for under $300.
Thanks for reading my review of the PXG 0211 irons. What are your thoughts on the set? Leave your comments below!
Just purchased a set of the 0211 irons, I am in my 60’s and was looking for help with diminishing distance, these clubs helped a ton. they have a great feel and would highly recommend hitting them before purchasing your next set of clubs. I have taken 3-4 shots off each round. An added bonus was the time the PXG rep spent fitting the clubs to my swing. He was not in a hurry and spent the time necessary to get me set up properly. Highly Recommend!
The static loft of a club is just as useless as the number stamped on the bottom. It is the performance that matters. Launch angle, peak height and angle of descent affect the overall picture of how an iron performs more than any number stamped on the bottom or any static loft number on the spec sheet. Back in the day when you were hitting your 28° 4 iron, the manufacturing and design required that much loft to elevate the ball. Technology and new manufacturing has come a long way since then, and cubs can be lower lofted but still have the flight window of “Legacy” clubs.
What we need to know is do these new clubs with stronger lofts still hit the same flight window as the older clubs with weaker lofts.
DO NOT PURCHASE THESE CLUBS!
This company claims to be able to fit you on line but that’s so far from the truth. All they want to do is up sell you. Bought some irons before Christmas last year as I was told price was going up. Price wasn’t going up they were releasing a newer and better version of the 0211. Pressure sale and upsold me on graphite shafts which I hit 20 yards shorter than 7 year old TaylorMade irons. I live in North East OH so my golf season doesn’t start until late March early April. After my 2nd round I called to lodge a complaint that they miss fit me. They blew me off and delayed there response. Actually they didn’t respond. I had to call them multiple times. I actual went through another fitting that put me in completely different “Seel and Stiff” shafts. Apparently I had 30 days in 20 degree snow covered ground weather to try these clubs. I started my complaint in March. No one called my back after multiple phone calls. Now in May they say it’s almost 6 months since I bought them there is nothing they can do. There policy is to blow you off as long as possible then never help you with you issue. There are so many more options out there besides pxg. I would recommend buying some used garage sale or ebay clubs before buying from them. Save your money and the hassle!

LOL YEAH!!!
Bernie is a big cry baby.
Golf Club Guru,
I used to believe the same way as you, straight up. Angrily defended my position. I figured “28 degree loft, that’s a 5 iron, not a 7.” On my forged Macgregor V-Foil 675s that are 15 years old, the 7-iron is 35 degrees, the 5 is 27.5. But it’s a lot more complicated than that. They’re not just reflexively stamping lower numbers on irons so that the 7 is a really a 5.
I recently got fitted for the 0211s, been playing them for all of a week. When I first looked down at the 7 iron it intimidated me because of the loft. I thought “Oh bleep, I’m trying to hit a 5 iron here, I’m shaky on the low irons, this will be a challenge working the ball up.” I was wrong. The ball takes off just like a 7 iron. The launch angle’s about the same as my old club, the ball appears to reach a peak about as high and come down at just about the same descent angle. It spins up pretty much the same, if one week of carefully inspecting ball marks and balls on greens is any indication. This thing at 28 degrees loft is basically flighting the ball just like my old 7, only now on a 160 yard shot I can pull 7, whereas I used to be hitting 6.
The only area where there is a legit difference is around the greens, hitting less than full shots. There, it appears the effects of the lower CG and the trampoline face are muted and the ball comes off too low for my taste. This is why I’m playing my old wedges and looking to get fitted for some new forged blades for chips and pitches.
I’m just saying that the physics of it is a lot more complex than mere lofts, and I can refer you to launch monitor numbers from numerous sources for proof. They’re available on the net (e.g., Today’s Golfer out of the UK).
Bernie is sharing his experience and opinion. Does not make him a “baby”. Take it for what it is. A bad experience.
THIS CLUB IS NOW 89.00 EACH AND ITS NOT THE BEST BUT THE BEST DOES NOT WANT ANY PART OF IT
Funny, I also currently use the 825 pros. I love them and not sure why I’m even shopping around. Found a new set of Mizuno MP 20 HMB’s (on the rack locally) for around $1000. Really wanting the HMB’s and have become a Mizuno believer after playing MP 60’s and currently using a 200 stg driver and 190 3 wood. Question, would you spend the extra few hundred on the Mizunos or are these worth a try? I generally shoot in the high 70’s at my local courses and probably play a 9-10 handicap at tougher courses.
In my earlier life distance was not an issue but being 70 years old it has been very depressing hitting a 7 iron 125 yards. With the pxg 0211dc irons I now hit it as far as I used to. Even though the loft has been jacked it gives me pleasure hitting it as far as I did 20 years ago. I like em alot and recommend them to all seniors.
The thinnest face in golf delivers an exceptional feel ,so soft like Butter …The lofts are the same as the Callaway Mavrik and the Taylormade Sim 2 but the feel is so much better with a nice high trajectory ,and the looks down at the ball are perfect just a hint of offset ..I’m a club Ho but this could be the end of a search that started a long time ago…my wife hopes so….Thanks PXG !
I bought 0211 DC . After playing with them, tried to return them. They said 30 days had gone by.I live in MO. Play when I could. The clubs are at least 1 club short than my others. There AD reads Crazy Distance, Wrong.
Ok I bought a set of 0211 with Elevate Tour Stiff 5-gap. This shaft is awful–I am 73 years old and until this winter have had a 0 to Plus 2 handicap. First of all I got no extra distance–I play Ping Eye 2 irons–and most of the time I could feel this shaft give and the ball go out to the right about 20-30 feet. I am very disappointed in this offering from PXG–Mine are going back this morning. Still searching for something to replace the Pings.
73 years old playing a stiff flex steel shaft and getting no extra distance? With all of the 0211s technology, youre saying 30 year old clubs perform better?… yeah ok
