Left handed men get screwed over when it comes to golf clubs. No doubt about it.
Everyone knows about 90% of people are right handed. It costs considerably more money PER SET for a golf club manufacturer to make 10 sets of golf clubs, compared to 90 sets. Therefore, companies release far more right handed sets than left handed sets. Many of the most popular complete sets ever sold aren’t even offered in left handed.
So, to put it simply: left handed beginner men golfers have far less options when it comes to choosing a complete set of golf clubs.
This article is meant to be as helpful as possible. How can I do that? By giving you options, telling you which one is best for who, and being completely honest & unbiased when talking about the golf clubs. So, that’s what we will do.
Under $150: Nitro X Factor Left Handed Set
I’m not going to BS you here. This is a super cheap set. You can tell from the price. You can tell from the pictures. You can tell from the overall quality. It’s a cheap set, and it’s not for everyone.
However, it’s a low priced set with DECENT quality, and it’s offered in a left handed set.
The Nitro X Factor set is by far the CHEAPEST complete set for left handed men beginners that I’d ever recommend. It’s an “off-brand”, unlike the big companies like Callaway, Titleist, TaylorMade, etc. The clubs are without a doubt much lower quality than more expensive sets. However, and this is very important, YOU PROBABLY WON’T EVEN NOTICE.
This set includes a driver, a fairway wood, a hybrid, 3 irons, a wedge, and a putter. The clubs are meant to be as forgiving as possible. However, more expensive clubs are 1) more forgiving, 2) longer, 3) more durable, and 4) feel so much better at impact.
As a beginner that doesn’t expect to play a whole lot of golf in their life, this set will do just fine. If you think you may take a liking to golf, though, it’s better to go ahead and spend $100 more to get a higher quality set, the Strata set.
Who It’s Best For: The Nitro X Fact Set is best for those that want the lowest priced entry into the game of golf, even though it’s a low quality set that won’t last forever and won’t perform as well.
Under $250: Strata 12 Piece Men’s Set
Strata is by far the most popular complete set for beginners. They have sold more than all other beginner club set companies combined, and they thankfully offer their sets for left handers.
The Strata golf club sets come in many different variations. I always recommend the lowest priced option, the 12 piece set. It has the least amount of clubs, which is fine because beginners don’t need a full set anyway.
Includes in the 12 piece Strata men’s set is: a driver, 3 wood, hybrid, 4 irons, a wedge, and a putter. So it’s the same makeup of the cheaper Nitro set, expect it has an extra iron.
If you are completely unsure of which set to buy, this is easily your safest bet. It’s been used by thousands of beginners golfers, and I’d wager than 95% of them were happy they got this set. The other 5% probably wished they bought a more expensive set.
Overall, the Strata 12 Piece set is the best combination of price and quality for left handed golfers. The clubs are decently forgiving, decently long, and offer decent feel at impact. Again, a higher quality set like Cobra will outperform the Strata set in all three categories by far, but most beginners won’t even notice.
Beginners won’t be able to tell the difference between a $250 set and a $1,000 set, except when it comes to durability. Cheaper complete sets result in more “broken club heads” falling off of the shaft, but that’s not a huge issue with Strata sets, unless you simply hit the ground far too hard at impact.
Who It’s Best For: The Strata 12 piece set is best for left handed golfers that are overwhelmed by the golf club buying process. Most beginners will find this the best combination of price, performance, and durability without spending an arm and a leg.
Under $500: Tour Edge Bazooka 370
If you want a higher quality left handed set, but aren’t ready to shell out more than $500, then consider the Tour Edge Bazooka 370 set. Tour Edge is one of the most underrated brands in golf. They make very high quality clubs, both individually and in better quality complete sets.
The Tour Edge Bazooka 370 set comes with: a driver, 2 fairway woods, a hybrid, 6 irons, a wedge, and a putter. Therefore, the set has one more fairway wood and 2-3 more irons than the other two sets that we’ve talked about so far.
In general, you’ll hit the ball slightly longer and straighter with this set. Plus, it’ll last longer and feel a little better at impact. Better quality material = slightly higher prices = better quality clubs.
If you are weary of buying a super expensive set of clubs, this is a good middle ground. Great performance at a very fair price. It’s not the same quality as a complete set of Cobra clubs, but it’s darn near close.
Who It’s Best For: The Tour Edge Bazooka 370 set is best for left handers that want a more durable, better performing set than the Strata/Nitro options, but don’t want to spend over $500.
Highest Quality: Cobra XL Speed Left Handed Set
The Cobra XL Speed is the cream of the crop when it comes to men’s left handed complete sets of golf clubs. The highest quality clubs that you can buy, no doubt about it.
These clubs will last longer, keep their value better, fly higher, fly longer, and feel better than any other clubs on the market. If you plan on playing lots of golf in the future, it’s best to go ahead and buy a high quality set from the start. Otherwise, you’ll buy a low quality set and then buy this set later on. Buy once, cry one. Right?
If you have around $800 to spend, then this set is a no brainer. Unfortunately, Cobra makes LOTS of high quality set of clubs for beginners, but most aren’t offered in left handed options like this one is.
This set comes with the following: driver, two fairway woods, two hybrids, 5 irons, a wedge, and a putter. Having multiple fairway woods and hybrids is great for beginner golfers, as they will be using them more for approach shots than better players. Plus, hybrids are easier to hit than long irons, so you’ll score better with multiple of them.
The Cobra XL Speed comes in two different options for left handed golfers: regular and senior shafts. The other three sets that I’ve talked about don’t offer this option. The regular flex, steel shafts (for irons) are great for stronger golfers with faster club head speeds. The senior flex, graphite shafts are better for slower swinging golfers, like seniors and weaker men. The senior flex shafts are also better for those with joint pain, as they are lighter and the vibrations through your body are not as severe at impact.
Who It’s Best For: The Cobra XL Speed set is for golfers that truly want the best performing clubs that money can buy. It’s the highest quality complete set of clubs for left handed beginner men.
Best Value Option: Used Left Handed Clubs
If you want to save as much money as possible and get the best bang for your buck, then consider buying used. There are many ways for you to buy used left handed clubs.
You can buy from eBay, you can buy local (Facebook Marketplace and local selling groups), and you can use your friends/family. If you know any of your left handed friends or family that plays/played golf, reach out to them! They might have an extra couple of sets that they don’t use anymore that they’d be happy to give to you or sell to you for a small price.
