Golf club manufacturers have not done a great job of producing quality complete sets made specifically for senior women. Therefore, you unfortunately don’t have a wide array of options when it comes to finding the perfect set for YOU.
However, there are three high quality options that we would recommend. Which of the three you should pick will depend solely on your budget. If you can afford (and want to spend) the extra money, you’ll end up with a slightly higher quality set. If you don’t have much money to spend, I’d recommend going with the “best value” option. The best value option is a high quality set by all means, but slightly lacking in durability and performance compared to the more expensive options.
With all of that being said, let’s get into the best complete sets of golf clubs for women that we’d recommend.
1) Cobra F-Max Airspeed Women’s 2020 Set (Best Overall)
If you can afford the best of the best, then go with the Cobra F-Max Airspeed women’s set. It’s got lightweight graphite shafts (in senior flex) and lightweight club heads, allowing you to create as much swing speed as possible. This is an area where many older women struggle with. Not only does it mean you will generate more power, but there’s less drag on the club leading to you hitting the ball even greater distances than before.
The Cobra F-Max Airspeed women’s complete set is over $1,000. That may sound like a lot, but this set will absolutely stand the test of time. While most complete sets are made of low quality parts that break within a couple of years, this set is made just like Cobra’s premium line of golf clubs. This set isn’t marketed to beginners for that reason. It’s marketed to golfers that truly want a high quality set of clubs all around.
The higher price tag will only make financial sense if you expect to play many rounds of golf with it. If well taken care of, it will 100% be the last set of clubs that you ever buy, so that’s a huge plus. Plus, simply not having to worry about broken club heads or shafts is a huge benefit.
When it comes performance, the Cobra F-Max Airspeed women’s clubs are extremely forgiving. The club heads have large club faces and lots of perimeter weighting to make the sweet spot as large as possible. Lightweight clubs + forgiving club heads = great set of clubs for senior women golfers.
What’s Included: In this set, you get a driver, 3, 5, and 7 woods, a 5 hybrid, irons 6 to pitching wedge, a sand wedge, and a putter. This combination of clubs is slightly different to other sets. It has far more fairway woods than you typically see, which is great for senior women who tend to hit more fairway woods than most women. I wish there was another hybrid, but one is plenty for most golfers. With this set, you should be able to play any shot you want from any lie.
Driver: If we look at the clubs, you will first of all see that the driver comes with 15 degrees of loft, which is great for senior women with slower swing speeds. Too little loft and the ball simply won’t travel very far in the air. Also, the head comes with a slight offset, which is going to help encourage the club face to be square at impact. Most complete sets do not include an offset driver, so this is a big plus for an older women’s set.
Fairway Woods: The woods are impressive clubs in this set. They also come with a carbon crown which is going to increase distance while the weight has been pushed to the rear of the clubs. This will help in getting the ball off the ground while it also allows them to increase the size of the sweet spot to help the club in correcting those shots that are hit off-center.
Irons: In addition, we love the irons and their perimeter weighting allowing for that larger sweet spot to appear across the board. Thanks to the size of the sweet spot, you should find it easier to not only improve your accuracy, but also have more control over your shot in the first place. Overall, it’s not only the weight of these clubs that we love but also the way in which they provide you with the opportunity to have more control over your shot selection.
Putter: The putter includes in this set is a mallet putter, which most senior golfer women would prefer. It’s got a larger club head than a blade putter, which helps with alignment and overall feel.
Bag/Design: This set comes in two different color combinations: white/copper and black/pink. Personally, I love the look of the black & pink, but that is purely personal preference. Both sets look very professional and premium, especially compared to cheaper sets on the market for senior women. Keep in mind that the while bag will look dirtier much quicker and easier than the black bag!
Best for: The Cobra F-Max Airspeed set of clubs is best for older women that want the most forgiving, lightest weight clubs on the market and have the money to spend for them! The Cobra Airspeed 2020 complete set is the one that we feel is the best complete set for senior women out on the market.
2) Cobra XL Speed (Best Set for Senior Women Under $1000)
Moving onto the best set for under $1000, and we have opted for another set from Cobra, but this time it’s their XL Speed set from a couple of years back. Once again, the clubs are exceptionally light while still offering you a whole lot of control.
This is the second set in a row that is made by Cobra, and there is good reason for that. Cobra simply makes some of the best complete sets for senior women. While other sets are focusing solely on the majority of the market (men golfers), Cobra has branched out into the minority golfers (older women) for many years, and they are being rewarded!
The Cobra XL Speed is very, very similar to the Airspeed set. Here are some differences, though:
- The Airspeed club heads and shafts are just slightly lighter. Not a big difference, but worth noting. Therefore, you’ll be able to create a little more club head speed with the Airspeed clubs.
- The Airspeed set is far more expensive, because it’s brand new. You’ll save around $500 by going with the older Cobra XL Speed women’s set. Personally, I think the obvious choice is pretty clear. The XL Speed clubs will perform nearly as well as the Airspeed clubs, but at a much lower price.
- The Airspeed set only comes in one standard size. The Cobra XL Speed clubs come in two sizes: standard and petite. More on this later, as it’s very important. Check out the next paragraph.
- The Airspeed driver has 15 degrees of loft, while the XL Speed set only has 12.5 degrees of loft. The 12.5 degrees of loft will be better for senior women with faster swing speeds, while the 15 degrees is better for those with slower swing speeds.
- The Airspeed putter is a mallet style, while the XL Speed putter is a mid-mallet. Not a large difference, but the mallet is larger and easier to aim than the mid-mallet.
Like I mentioned, the Cobra XL Speed women’s set comes in two different sizes: standard and petite. The standard size is great for women golfers 5’3″ and taller. The petite set is great for women golfers shorter than 5’6″. This is a general rule, and is not 100% set in stone. You may be tall but have very long arms for your height, in which case a shorter set of clubs would be a better fit. However, the general rule is mostly going to hold true.
Before we talk about the clubs, let’s talk about the bag. This bag has an insulated pocket that can hold fourteen 12 oz cans!! What? What women golfer is carrying around 14 cans of beer? Holy cow. If you are putting down anywhere near that many beers, this is apparently the set for you!
The Cobra XL Speed women’s set comes in four different color schemes: black/blue, black/mint, grey/light pink, and black/hot pink. The petite set only comes in black/pink I believe. That’s true at the time of this writing, at least.
I’ll make this easy for you. The Cobra XL Speed senior women’s clubs are very similar to the Airspeed clubs, so you can go back and read the description up in the first section if you’d like. Notice that the last two differences I discussed earlier were about the driver and putter. The irons and fairway woods and wedges are practically the same, but with a new design.
With this, the driver is titanium, and it’s designed to not only give you some added distance to your drives, but also to be as forgiving as possible. It feels well balanced thanks to the weight being pushed more towards the rear, and even though it’s light there’s still enough weight in it to let you know that the club is in your hand and that you have complete control.
The woods are also designed with loft in mind as the aim of Cobra is to help you in getting that ball up off the ground no matter the lie. To help, Cobra has boosted the size of the sweet spot while the heads are slightly oversized to help with factoring this into play. Once again, the weight is pushed to the rear, which is certainly a trend, and they remain lightweight allowing for a faster swing speed.
Finally there’s the irons, and they have a cavity backed design. This helps with forgiveness on your mishit shots. You’ll have a lot of those – trust me.
Overall, these clubs are amazing, and they still represent great value for your hard earned money. $800 sounds like a lot, I get it. But compared to the Airspeed clubs, the XL Speed set offers far for value per dollar. And if $800 is still too much, consider out better value option under $500, the Wilson Profile set.
Best for: The Cobra XL Speed women’s complete set is perfect for women that want one of the highest quality sets on the market without spending over $1,000. It’s also perfect for golfers that want the best brand in women’s golf, but are on the shorter end of the spectrum (the petite option is great for you!).
3) Wilson Profile SGI (Best Set Under $500)
Golf clubs are simply expensive. There is no way around it. However, if you want to pick up a high quality set of clubs for under $500, then the Wilson Profile SGI Women’s set is going to be your best option.
All sets that are cheaper than this one are simply too low quality to recommend. So, please, do not go for an off-brand set of clubs that has a lower price tag. You’ll regret it when a club breaks every other time that you play. Or, you’ll regret it when your shots simply don’t fly as far and straight as they should.
One great thing about the Wilson Profile SGI set is that it comes in left and right handed options, unlike most complete sets. Another huge plus is that it comes in 3 different sizes: tall, standard, and petite sizes. Again, go with the petite if you are 5’3″ or shorter, and go with the tall if you are 5’9″ or taller. If you are in between the two, the standard is the best for you.
SGI stands for super game improvement. That means the clubs are meant to be as easy to hit as possible. Forgiving club heads, large sweet spots, and low centers of gravity to get the ball in the air as quickly as possible.
For the set, you get a driver, 5 wood, 5 hybrid, 6-PW irons, sand wedge, and putter. The common theme is that they are extremely forgiving which is why this is the perfect set for new players. The driver is oversized while it’s also very light to increase distance. The wood has loft added to it to then make it easier to get the ball off the deck. The irons use perimeter weighting to increase the sweet spot, and you can see that the aim is to make everything as easy as possible for each and every shot.
Not only is this the best complete set for seniors under $500, it’s actually FAR BELOW that threshold. You can currently pick up this set with free shipping for $350. That’s delivered to your house in two days (assuming you have prime) – easy peazy. One purchase and you’re ready to go.
Overall, this set does everything the beginner needs to get around the course while working on other aspects of their game. The clubs are easy to swing, well balanced and offer enough control over your shot to make shot selection easier.
Best for: The Wilson Profile SGI set is perfect for senior women golfers on a tight budget that want a high quality set without spending $500 or more. It’s also perfect for left handed golfers, and golfers that are especially short (5’3″ or shorter) or tall (5’9″ or taller). Other sets just come standard sized, while Wilson has three different sizes available to better fit YOU.
Overall Verdict
When it comes to purchasing complete sets for senior women, you need to take certain things into consideration before spending your cash. First, how serious are you going to take golf? If you plan on playing regularly and have the money to spend, go with the highest quality set, the Cobra Airspeed set. If you want the lowest priced set that is still high quality, go with the Wilson Profile SGI set. If you are in between the two, then consider the Cobra XL SPeed the middle ground option.
This is a serious investment for any player, and with so many options out there on the market, getting the right one for you isn’t always easy. I hope this article made your selection as easy as possible.
That’s why we settled on three options that we feel are suitable for senior women golfers.
We love all 3 sets listed above, and don’t worry about going for the set under $500 as you will still have an amazing selection of clubs that perform far and above their price tag. But, what do you think? Have you played with Cobra or Wilson senior women’s clubs before? If so, tell us what you think or even suggest what you look for in your set.
