Getting a complete set of golf clubs shouldn’t feel like a huge hit on your bank balance. Of course, you could pay a fortune for a complete set, but there are so many other options out there that will allow you to get out on the course and working on your game.
Here’s one thing that you’ll need to decide right away. Do you want to spend nearly a thousand dollars on a complete set (that will perform slightly better all around), or would you rather purchase a complete set for under $300 that will perform nearly just as well? The choice is clear for us… the sub-$300 sets are the way to go for most golfers, unless your budget is astronomical.
So, in this article, we are going to focus on complete sets for women that cost less than $300. Yep, you read that right, we will get you started for a fraction of the cost that you would have probably expected.
What to Look for
But first, let’s explain what we are really looking for with these sets.
First, we are looking for name brands. We don’t recommend off-brand clubs, because they simply break too quickly, don’t feel great at impact, and lack in performance all around. Name brands like Callaway (Strata), Wilson, Cobra, TaylorMade, etc. are what we recommend. Higher quality clubs, and hardly any more expensive.
Secondly, we are looking for light club weights and lots of forgiveness. Light club weights (via graphite shafts) and super forgiving clubs (via large club heads and low centers of gravity) will allow you to hit the high, long, straight shots that you want. These clubs, compared to others, will be more than capable of adding some yardage and additional control to your shots. This should involve better weight distribution around the club head mixed in with a massive sweet spot to help pull those shots back into line. Also, we don’t want them to be too heavy that they slow down your swing and reduce the energy that’s used to strike the ball.
Lastly, we are looking at the price tags. Sure, Callaway’s Solaire set and TaylorMade’s Kalea set are incredible options. However, most women golfers can’t afford those. Or if they can, they simply don’t want to shell out that much money for some golf clubs. Therefore, we are searching for the best alternatives at a fraction of the price. $300 is a great guideline for a “budget-friendly” set of clubs.
With all of that in mind, let’s check out some examples of complete sets that fall well within our available budget.
1) Callaway Strata Women’s Plus (14-Piece Set)
The first set we are going to recommend is the Callaway Strata Plus from 2018. It’s one of the most popular selling sets for women of all time, and for good reason. This is not their 2020 model. This model is two years old now, and that is what has helped the price slide under $300. This set has the perfect dimensions and is aimed at a wide range of women golfers, ranging from complete beginner/newbie to intermediate. Let’s be real – most female golfers fall in this range anyway.
As it’s a set made by Callaway, you can rightfully expect these clubs to be out of the top drawer, so the fact that you can get a set for less than $300 is an added bonus.
For us, the key with this set is that it has an overlarge sweet spot and the lightweight graphite shafts, and that’s kind of Callaway to include that in a set that costs as little as this one. The driver, woods, hybrids, and irons have super lightweight graphite shafts that will allow you to generate plenty of club head speed and height on your shots.
All of the clubs are bulky. This doesn’t sound like a positive thing, until you realize that more weight behind the club face = more forgiveness. The driver has 450cc head, and the irons have plenty of cavity back weight to increase the sweet spots as much as possible. Cavity back irons like these push the weight to the sole of the club, and this makes it easier to get the ball off the ground.
Overall, it’s simply a tried and true complete set, made by a reputable company. Truthfully, it’s hard to recommend any other option. Strata complete women’s sets are simply the best combination of price & performance that you could as for.
2) Wilson Women’s Profile SGI
Another seriously good option is the Wilson Profile SGI set. The previous model “Profile XD” set is currently under $300, and the Profile SGI set is sure to be under $300 by the time you read this article (it’s priced a little over $300 right now because it was just released, but the price will drop shortly when a new set comes out). However, what you get here is everything you need to get out onto the course, and with Wilson you at least have a name that you will have probably heard of.
Wilson complete sets are typically a little cheaper than Strata sets. And the performance and durability drops off a LITTLE, but nothing significant. Brand new golfers and early beginner golfers won’t be able to notice the difference at all. Intermediate golfers may notice a small difference, but again… nothing major.
The Wilson Women’s Profile SGI set is perfect for the beginner because it will pull your shots back into line while the lightweight shafts allow for faster swing speeds. Also, Wilson has worked at the weight balance in the club heads to reduce twisting as much as possible, but a lot of that does come with your swing, so don’t expect too much of a difference in this area.
One thing we love is that it comes with an oversized driver. That’s going to offer you a larger strike zone, and it’s also very forgiving off the tee as well.
This Wilson Women’s Profile SGI set is aimed at women with all skill levels, so a beginner or intermediary will be able to really benefit from the set. The clubs and shafts are seriously lightweight, and that will increase your swing speed and add some yardage to your shots. The driver also has a 14 degree angle that will get the ball off the tee and up into the air with ease. For the irons, they have a cavity back, and this pushes the weight around the perimeter of the club. The result is added forgiveness, which is going to be very useful when you are constantly missing striking the ball in the center of the face.
Overall, we do love Wilson clubs for those starting out, and the Wilson Women’s Profile SGI set is not going to disappoint at all. Also, the fact that it costs right $300 is something to be admired.
3) Callaway Strata Women’s Basic (11-Piece Set)
Even though $300 already represents real value for money, it is possible to go even lower in price in order to save some extra cash. So, for this, we are going for another option from Strata, and it’s the 11 piece set, as opposed to the 14 piece set. Once again, we recommend going back a few years to circa 2017 as you will be able to get a complete set for under $300, and that is seriously impressive. Lots of bang for your buck here.
This set has the following: everything you TRULY need, and nothing that you don’t. You don’t TRULY need multiple fairway woods and multiple hybrids and a sand wedge as a beginner. You can get by with one fairway wood, one hybrid, and a pitching wedge to get out of the sand as a beginner. As a result, you lose three clubs, and end up saving big money over the 14-piece set.
The rest is all there. The driver, fairway wood, and hybrid are all super forgiving and easy to get up into the air. The irons are still cavity back and forgiving as well. The putter is an easy-to-align mid mallet putter that most women prefer. So there is no difference besides the number of clubs that you are getting.
Overall, like we mentioned before, the Strata sets are super well made. They may not have all of the technology that more expensive sets have, but they focus on the basics, and that’s all you want at this time.

While you may not have expected much from a set of golf clubs for under $300, there are so many options out there with clubs that can improve your game. We think that the sets mentioned above are perfect for either women starting out in the game or women who simply want to play golf on a budget.
