Sea Island is located on one of the barrier islands of the state of Georgia. This is not just a golf course but also a beautiful resort situated on St.Simons Island. This was a course that was redesigned by Tom Fazio to make two nine-hole courses work and flow with one another.
This is an oceanside golf course, which makes it one of our favorites just for that reason. Sea Island is always in great shape, and although it can be a bit expensive to enjoy a round here, they do offer some season specials if you stay away from things like Memorial Day Weekend. Being that this is an ocean golf course, the wind is almost always going to be a factor. Depending on when you play, the course can be a monster.

Best Mountain Golf Course: Achasta Golf Club
Yes, one of the best things about the state of Georgia is the fact that you can get a bit of the mountain and the sea. Since our best public golf course was an ocean course, we figured we better give you a taste of the mountain as well.
Achasta Golf Club is not one of the most famous golf courses in Georgia, but it should be. This is a semi-private golf club located in the foothills of the north Georgia mountains. The town is called Dahlonega. While you are playing this golf course, you will see the Chestatee River wind in and out for more than half of the holes. This is a golf course and a community that is certainly worth a visit if you have not already checked it out.
Achasta has hosted some tour qualifiers, a US Open qualifier, and qualifiers for the Georgia State Mid Am as well. Anytime the PGA Tour considers your course capable of handling a qualifier, you know you are doing something right!
Best Lake Golf Courses: Reynolds Lake Oconee
Reynolds Lake Oconee offers more than just lake courses. This is a fantastic resort and community with some incredible golf courses to play. The signature course, Great Waters, usually sits near the top of America’s Top 100 golf courses. When you break down the best golf courses in Georgia, four of the six Reynolds courses usually sit in the top ten. That indeed says something about how serious Reynolds is about their golf courses.
Not all of the Reynolds golf courses are open to the public, but there is plenty to do should you schedule a trip to this area. You will not believe how well maintained these golf courses are kept, and they will undoubtedly be a test of your skills as well.
Best College Golf Course: University of Georgia
College golf courses can be a great value if you are not looking to break the bank on one of those resort greens fees. The best college golf course in the state of Georgia is the University of Georgia golf course. The rates to play this course are fair, and they get even better if you are staff, students, or alumni.
This is an 18 hole Robert Trent Jones design that was renovated in 2016. You can play this golf course less than 5,000 yards or over 7,000 yards, so it is quite accommodating to a wide range of players. Although this facility is used for the University of Georgia golf teams, there is plenty of availability for outside groups and travelers to enjoy the facility. There is a great practice area, and although the golf course is not overly complicated in design, it is a beautiful place to enjoy while in the area. If you happen to be checking out some colleges with your kids, choose the ones that have university golf courses!
