You want an honest review? I’ll give you an honest review. The Cobra F-Max AirSpeed driver is no better than the Cobra F-Max Superlite driver. Oh wait, actually the 2 gram difference in the weight of the driver head will make a substantial difference in your driving distance. Just joking – obviously.
Listen: if you want the newest release to boost your ego and make you feel like you are getting the best driver possible, by all means go for it. But if you want to save some money, a pretty substantial amount actually, then go with the older model (the SuperLite).
Anyway, here’s our honest review of the Cobra F-Max AirSpeed driver, because that’s what you came here for. If that’s not what you came here for, you probably are an AWFUL reader and I wouldn’t encourage you to continue doing so.
Appearance
There are two models of the Cobra F-Max AirSpeed driver: the straight shaft option and the offset option. The offset driver is meant for beginners and very high handicaps that need a little extra help with closing the club face at impact.
Overall, I really like the color scheme of the AirSpeed. Black and blue has always been a personal favorite of mine – not just for golf clubs, but for everything.
Taking a look at the club head, there isn’t much going on. Not too many moving parts, which is great for beginners and high handicaps that prefer to buy a driver and not mess with adjusting anything.
At address, it’s got a very forgiving look and feel. The large club head and club face scream “forgiveness”, which is ideal for those that struggle with hitting the center of the club face on a consistent basis.
Performance
Who cares about appearance? You want to hit the ball long and you want to hit the ball straight, right? That should be it.
I’ll be as straight forward as possible. The Cobra F-Max Airspeed driver will perform best for slow swing speeds. It’s that simple. The club head is practically the lightest one that you can buy (that is still USGA conforming, of course). That’s great for golfers with slow swing speeds, as it will allow them to gain 1-2 mph to the swing speed, which will help gain a little distance overall. If you have a moderate or fast swing speed, you’ll find it hard to control the club. You’ll gain a little in distance as well, but you likely won’t see the benefit when you are hitting balls left and right into hazards and OB.
When I tested out this driver, I truly didn’t like it. However, this driver isn’t meant for me, so my personal experience should have no benefit to you. I launched a couple drives past my current gamer (Titleist 910 D3), but I also missed a few drives so bad that I’d be embarrassed to tell you where they ended up. Again, though, if you are a slow swinger, you’ll get the max benefit out of this club due to the light club head and shaft.
Price & Alternative
The new Airspeed drivers cost about $300, which is FAR LESS than most new drivers. However, there are better options out there from a few years back.
Golf companies push out new drivers every 6 months or so now. We understand why… they want golfers to continue to buy new clubs often so they can keep their revenues high and their shareholders happy. However, you don’t have to be a part of the crowd. We’re trying to start a movement… a used golf club movement. A “be patient” movement, where you wait 2-3 years after the release to buy the club. Why? Well, the club will perform the same, and you’ll save 50+% on the price tag. Makes sense to us.
Anyway, if you want a better value alternative to the Cobra F-Max AirSpeed, check out the Cobra F-Max Superlite for $150. The Superlite driver head is just 2 grams heavier than the new Airspeed. It was released a couple of years ago, which has led to price drops every time a new club is released. You can pick up a used one in good condition for about $150, half the price of the new Airspeed drivers. Like the Airspeed drivers, the Superlite also comes with straight shaft and offset shaft options.
Conclusion & Summary
Who is this driver for? This driver is for golfers with slower swing speeds that are looking for a lightweight, long, semi-forgiving, high-launching driver. It’s the lightest driver head on the market for 2020. Its light weight head will result in more distance, but a small decrease in accuracy.
Is there a better value alternative? Yup… the Cobra F-Max Superlite. Did you even read the article? I feel like you didn’t read the article. The money that you saved by buying the Superlite should be used to get a few lessons by a PGA instructor. You could also just go ahead and get professionally fitted for clubs. Your choice.
Would you recommend the Cobra F-Max Airspeed driver? Yes, if you have the money for it. It’s a great value option already.

What’s the longest (fastest swing speed) that one can hit the Cobra F Max Airspeed driver before experiencing diminishing returns in terms of accuracy and/or distance? Also if this driver is specifically designed for slow swing speeds why the heck is it offered with a stiff shaft??
I’ve never visited this site before but I Google searched “Is the Cobra F Max a good driver” and your page was listed and here I am. Obviously, I have no idea who you are or whether you know what you’re talking about but I am impressed. In your review of the driver, you repeated a couple of times that it will benefit newer golfers and/or those with slower club head speeds. I’m not sure why, but I am one of those slower club speeds (despite being a strong, fit 50 year old man). I suspect it’s a combination of my right leg (knee replacement after 20+ surgeries) and my thus far failure to grasp the techniques needed to swing to my potential. But at any rate, I bought this driver early this past season (2022) and went on to have the best year of my life by far on the golf course. I cracked 80 for the first time and proceeded to do it routinely on 4 or 5 different courses. I still didn’t drive the ball as far as I think I am capable (220-230 max) but I was in the middle of the fairway 75% of the time and that alone made a huge difference. Anyway, you were spot on in your assessment of this club!
