If you have not heard of the XXIO brand, you are very likely not alone. However, the XXIO Eleven women’s set of golf clubs has really started to make a name for itself this year. Even Golf Digest is starting to pay attention to what XXIO is up to and Ernie Els is playing with their product. Those are some pretty nice accolades. The XXIO 11 iron set is not a value brand set, in fact it is one of the more expensive women’s golf sets available. We will explain why the XXIO is gaining some popularity and as always you can count on an alternative or two that will save you a bit of money.
What Makes The XXIO Eleven Irons Great?
One of the main things that XXIO 11 irons focus on is speed. Women fall behind when it comes to club head speed. They struggle to get the distance that men do because they can’t quite swing the club fast enough.
XXIO Eleven irons use a four piece construction with a forged titanium faceplate and a Double Undercut Cavity. This is new technology for a cavity back iron and it makes them even more forgiving than a traditional cavity back iron. As light as this club head is, it is strong and the face won’t turn or vibrate much at impact.
As far as weighting is concerned this is a lightweight set of golf clubs, but XXIO considered other things when designing the perfect weighting. They noticed great inconsistencies in the top of women’s golf swings, because of the weight of the golf club. These inconsistencies at the top lead to problems at impact. With careful weight placement XXIO believes they have solved problems at the top of the swing and at impact for the moderate to slow swinging female golfer.
Set Composition
Since this is ultimately a game improvement set you will only find the XXIO 11 offered in a 7-SW combination. The typical player that would use this set of irons would not be trying to swing a 4, 5, or 6 iron. XXIO does make hybrids, fairway woods, and drivers to fill in the rest of the golf set for you.
The shaft on the XXIO iron is a graphite high performance, high launch shaft designed to get the ball up in the air. The lofts on the irons are more traditional than something like the Rogue would be. This is done to help the slower swinging golfers get the ball up in the air the way they need to create consistency.
The Problem
There are actually a few problems with the XXIO 11 iron set. If you are a mid to low handicap women golfer with a decent amount of club head speed, these irons are going to be a tough fit for you. You likely need something with a bit more weight and stability to it.
Secondly, this set of irons is priced at a premium. If you are a new golfer and need to get an entire set of XXIO clubs you will also likely need to take out a small home equity loan on your house. In all seriousness these are very nice clubs but priced just too high. Most beginner or high handicap golfers don’t put the time or effort into their golf game to justify the expense on this set of clubs. So of course we came up with an alternative for you.
The Better Priced Similar Set of Irons
XXIO Eleven is all about being light and forgiving, and so is Cobra Superlite. Although the Cobra Women’s Superlite irons may not have the same exact engineering and technology as the XXIO, they are completely capable of getting you the forgiveness and distance you need at a much lower price. In fact, you can buy a complete set of the Superlite womens golf clubs for the same price as about 5 or 6 of the XXIO irons. The Superlite set is not the newest release from Cobra but the technology is plenty new enough that you can find these both in the used or new category.
Yes or No to XXIO?
In our opinion this is a hard no. The prices are just too high and they are not doing anything that is that revolutionary to justify it. We will not say that the XXIO Eleven golf clubs don’t perform, or don’t feel good… they do. They are great irons and they work well, we just don’t feel like you are getting enough value at the current prices.
