The TaylorMade M6 Women’s Hybrid was the last in the ever-popular M series that TaylorMade had been working on for quite some time. Their new marketing has switched to the SIM line of products, but the M6 is still readily available for purchase.
We won’t make you wait until the end of this review to find out whether or not the M6 is a great club. It’s a perfect addition to your golf bag if you are the type of golfer that TaylorMade had in mind when they built this club. Here are the most important things to know about the M6 and whether or not it would make any kind of a difference in your game.
Speed Pocket
TaylorMade is big into speed. They have been on a mission to create the fastest ball speeds on tour. Ball speed will directly translate into more distance in your game. We don’t know of too many lady golfers that would say no to some extra yardage.
If you are playing with a hybrid that is a few years old, there is no question the TaylorMade Ladies M6 has technology to help get your ball traveling further. If you struggle to get the clubhead speed that you need to hit the ball high enough to carry that tricky water hazard protecting the green, the M6 will help.
Twist Face
Twist face technology has been around for a few years now. All you need to know about Twist Face technology is that it makes golf clubs more forgiving. If you have a tendency to be inconsistent with your hybrids, the Twist Face technology will help make your misses that much better. After all, golf is a game of misses. The better your misses, the better your score.
Shaft/Loft Options
The M6 Ladies Hybrid will come with the TaylorMade Tuned 45 graphite shaft. This is a perfectly weighted shaft for a woman golfer with average clubhead speeds. If you are someone who has quite a bit more clubhead speed than the average woman, you may want to look into a heavier shaft.
The TaylorMade Ladies M6 Hybrid comes in a 4, 5, 6, and 7 hybrid option. The four hybrids are 22 degrees in loft, and the seven hybrids are 31 degrees. These are traditional lofts for these hybrids and will give you plenty of launch and distance control.
Set Composition
Many women will wonder if the seven hybrid is a replacement for a seven iron. Although a seven hybrid is technically a replacement, you will likely hit it a bit further than your current seven iron. Hybrids are more forgiving and overall easier to hit. Some golfers will keep both the seven iron and the seven hybrid in their golf bag and find that this gives them good coverage across all yardages.
We wish the TaylorMade Ladies Hybrid came in a three-hybrid option. We think the reasoning here is that most women opt for a fairway wood when it gets to that point in the game, but it would have been an excellent option to have.
The Better Priced Alternative
As we said before, the M6 is an excellent hybrid for ladies. Since it is not the latest release, it has dropped in price a bit, but it still is expensive. The thing is, if you want one hybrid, it’s not hard to justify, but if you need three or four of these, it can get quite costly.
We highly recommend taking a look at the Ladies TaylorMade M4 Hybrids. The M4 was released before the M6, but it still has plenty of modern technology to get the job done. The M4 features speed pocket technology, just like the M6. We can’t say that it is just as long as the M6, but its very close. If you are updating from a hybrid released more than five years ago, you will notice a significant improvement switching to the M4.
The M4 is available in the 4, 5, and 6 hybrid. The look and feel of the M4 is very classic. When you look down at this club from the top, it gives you the confidence you need to get the ball heading towards the target. Even after the M6 series was released, many people continued to buy the M4.
Final Decision
If you need a new ladies hybrid in your golf bag, you can’t go wrong with the M6 or the M4. If you want to save a few dollars and don’t mind technology that is a year or two old, there is no reason not to go with the M4. If you put these two clubs in the hands of most mid-handicap female players, the differences would be very slim.
