Fairway woods are a critical club in the bag of a female golfer. There is no question that the majority of men hit the ball further than women. As a lady golfer, you will very likely take your fairway wood out of your bag many times during a round. For a man, they may take a fairway wood out four or five times during the course of a round. This makes choosing the correct fairway wood a crucial choice for a woman. The brand new TaylorMade Sim Max Ladies Fairway Wood is the latest and greatest option on the market. There are some incredible high performing benefits to this club, and a few things we are not thrilled with.
Sim Max Ladies Fairway Wood Overview
The new SIM MAX incorporates all of the technology of the M6 fairway wood, and then some. This club has the revolutionary Twist Face technology for forgiveness and the Speed Pocket for additional ball speed and distance. When it comes to fairway wood shots, especially out of the rough, there is a chance to hit the ball slightly off of center. The technology that TaylorMade put into the SIM Max will help to make those misses much better.
New for the SIM MAX is an improved V Steel Sole. V Steel technology is not new, but it has changed quite a bit. If you are looking for better turf interaction from either the fairway or the rough, the V Steel can help. TaylorMade has proved that there is considerably less friction at impact with the new V Steel.
The face of the SIM MAX Fairway woods is a new ultra-strong C300 steel. This is a strong face that delivers increased speed at impact. The SIM MAX Fairway is designed for any female golfer. From beginner to low handicap, the SIM MAX is a great option.
Options
Most women carry more than one fairway wood in their golf bag. Choosing a fairway that has several different loft options is essential for building the proper set design. The SIM Max comes in a 3, 5, 7, and 9 wood. If you like these, you can fill a good portion of your golf bag with them. The SIM Max comes standard with an Aldila NV Ladies 45 Graphite shaft. Aldila makes some of our favorite shafts on the market; there is no question that all of the components of the SIM Max fairways are high quality.
Negatives
With all of these positives, you may be wondering why everybody doesn’t have a SIM Max fairway in their golf bag; the answer is simple; it’s expensive. The SIM Max ladies fairway wood is not a cheap club, but then when you add in the fact that you will likely need two or three of these to fill your golf bag, things add up really fast.
The good news is that although the SIM Max is a great fairway wood, it is only slightly better than the M6 and the M6 is only marginally better than the M4. When you compare golf technology from one year to the next, most players will not notice the difference unless they are lower handicappers. If you are playing with fairway woods that are more than five or six years old, there are cheaper upgrades and alternatives than the SIM Max.
An Alternative For Budget-Focused Women Golfers
There are two alternatives that we think would work as a replacement for the SIM Max fairway. The two prior models are the TaylorMade M6 and the TaylorMade M4. Both options can still be found and should also be available in the 3, 5, and at least the seven wood. The pricing dropped considerably on the M6 the day that the SIM Max was released, and it will very likely continue to fall. The great news about pricing falling on golf clubs is that their technology is still amazing even after the price drops.
The M6 and the M4 Ladies fairway woods feature the Speed Pocket technology to help you gain more ball speed even if your swing speed is not the fastest. The M6 Ladies fairway also features the Twist face technology, which makes it a bit more forgiving than the M4.
Recap
The TaylorMade SIM Max ladies fairway woods are one of our favorite releases in 2020. As with any new golf club release, the pricing is going to be a little high. If the SIM Max is a good fit for you, but you don’t want to pay the prices, look at the TaylorMade Ladies M6 fairway wood for a great value. If you’re going to look even further back, the M4 offers another good alternative. The problem will be that it is not as forgiving as the M6 or the SIM Max. The bottom line is that if you stick with any of the last three TaylorMade fairway wood releases for women, you will be adding a great tool to your golf bag.
