Ping golfers are very serious about their products. Many players will never switch back to another brand once they have a Ping in their hand. We can’t blame them!
We are going to do an in-depth look at the Ping G Le2 Driver and give you our honest opinion as to whether or not this club is worth the money. As always, we will also give you a choice that could cost you quite a bit less with similar performance.
Overview
The Ladies Ping G Le2 Driver has a very thin club face. This is technology that we are starting to see across the board. The thinner face on a driver allows it to have more of a spring-like effect at impact. If you are looking for some extra ball speed, the Le2 can help.
The head of the G Le2 is designed to give you a high moment of inertia because of its light weight. One common theme in the Ping Ladies drivers through the years has been that they are very lightweight.
In fact, if you are a faster swinging female golfer, you may want to look into a different shaft. The Ping G Le2 driver features a Ping ULT 240 lite graphite shaft. This is a high performing high launching shaft.
Adjustability
Here comes our favorite part about the G Le2 driver; it is adjustable. As far as we are concerned, if you are going to pay several hundred dollars for a driver, you should be getting something that feels like a custom fit to you. An adjustable driver is a perfect way to make sure that your driver is going to work for your game correctly.
The Ping calls this their Trajectory Tuning 2.0 technology. You can adjust this driver into eight different positions to help change the ball flight. The loft is adjustable up or down by 1.5 degrees. You can also adjust the lie. When it comes to choosing a driver with adjustability, make sure that you pick one that falls in the middle of the range of loft you might want. The 11.5 is perfect for the G Le2; you can adjust down to a ten or up to a 13 if you wish.
Pricing
Remember how we mentioned that Ping is known for a lightweight women’s driver, well they are known for something else as well. Ping does not budge on their pricing. Authorized Ping dealers are not allowed to sell Ping for less money than Ping does, or they will lose the ability to sell Ping. So there is no such thing as a sale on a Ping driver.
Because of this, the pricing on the Ping starts high and remains high for a few years. Only when the inventory begins to run very low will you see the pricing start to drop, and even then, it will only be a slight drop. The good news is that Ping clubs are very well built and will hold up for years. There is no question you are getting good quality even if it costs you a bit more upfront.
The Alternative
If the Ping G Le2 is, in fact, too much money for you, there are other options to choose from. Our favorite alternative to the Ping G Le2 is not a Ping Driver; it is a Cobra F Max Offset.
The Cobra is both forgiving and lightweight, and it is considerably less expensive. The technology is a few years behind the Ping G Le2, but it is certainly not lacking in any way. If you tend to miss your driver, especially to the right, this Cobra could be an excellent fit for you.
The grip on the Cobra is a ladies midsize grip to help improve some consistency. Some players enjoy this, and others have it regripped. For the price of the driver, you can have a grip put on, and it’s still a great deal. The F Max is not going to be adjustable, so the Ping will win out when it comes to adjustability. The F Max has a fixed back weight, positioned to help with both launch and forgiveness.
The Verdict
So is the Ping G Le 2 Driver worth the money, or should you find something cheaper? If you want quality, and you want adjustability, the Ping is a perfect choice. Aside from the price and the fact that it may be too lightweight for some lady golfers, this driver has no negatives to it. It is essential to keep in mind that adjustability is always going to cost a bit more than something that is not adjustable. Having the ability to change the driver as your game changes or with different course or weather conditions is something that can be worth paying for.
