This set is as long and forgiving as they come. If you consider yourself a poor ball striker and want all of the help that you can get, then the Cobra T-Rail iron set would be a great set for you. This iron-hybrid combo set is practically a complete hybrid set, from PW all the way to 3 hybrid. There’s TONS of perimeter weighting to ensure the largest sweet spot possible.
Don’t get us wrong, though: there are similar options out there that perform nearly the same but cost FAR less. You’ll have to determine whether the small improvements are worth the hefty price difference.
Appearance: Chunky But Reassuring
Typically, the larger the club head, the more forgiving the set is. The Cobra T-Rail set has a super large profile, which screams “easy to hit.” Many high and mid handicap golfers will love the reassuring look of the larger heads at address. It gives them confidence that they don’t have to hit the dead center of the club face for a good result.
On the other hand, better players will be completely turned off by the clunkiness. They’d prefer a more compact club head, which can be found on players irons.
A set of black irons doesn’t fit the eye of many golfers, either. Personally, I’ve never been a fan of dark painted irons, but you may not mind the color.
Performance: Long & Crazy Forgiving
However, all new releases have varying levels of forgiveness. The Cobra T-Rail irons are some of the most forgiving irons out there. The wide soles and extra perimeter weighting made every poorly struck shots fly relatively long and straight. As a result, it’s a great set for golfers that struggle to consistently hit the center of the club face.
So should everyone get the most forgiving set like this one? Heck no. More forgiveness typically means that the iron set lacks the distance control, workability, and feel that better players desire.
Cobra T-Rail Iron Set vs Cobra T-Rail Combo Set
Which set you choose is completely dependent on your current setup. If you don’t want hybrids or if you already have a hybrid or two that you like, you should just stick with the iron set that you need. If you don’t have any hybrids yet, you should go ahead and pick up the combo set. That way, your irons and hybrids will match and there won’t be any large distance gaps in between clubs.
Men’s Set vs Women’s Set
There is only a small difference between the mens and womens sets. First, the women’s set has SLIGHTLY lighter club heads to allow you to swing faster and generate more club head speed. Second, the women’s set comes with a ladies flex shaft that you may prefer if you have a slower swing speed for a woman. If you have a moderate swing speed, you will be fine using the men’s set with a regular or senior flex shaft.
Price: Way Too High Compared to Alternatives
A good example of a better value substitute would be the Cleveland Golf Launcher HB Iron Set. Super large club heads & high launching shots, just like the Cobra T-Rail sets. The main difference? About $400 in price.
Summary
- Relatively long but SUPER forgiving set of irons & hybrids
- Available in a full iron set or a combo set (irons and hybrids)
- A little pricey compared to the similar alternatives that are just a few years old
Overall, the Cobra T-Rail combo sets are a great option for a high handicap golfer with a large budget that struggles with hitting the center of the club face on a consistent basis.
